While many new restaurants opened in our neighborhood this year, plenty closed, too.
Some of the restaurants had only been open for a short time, but others had become East Dallas staples.
Here’s a list of the eateries that said “goodbye” during 2022.
Unleavened Fresh Kitchen
This restaurant was open in Lakewood Shopping Center for seven years and had a focus on healthy foods.
Closed: December
OT Tavern
This bar and restaurant had been the subject of neighborhood pushback for years. Foxtrot, a coffee shop and market, is planned to take its place.
Closed: July
Mai’s Vietnamese
The owners of this Vietnamese restaurant usually take time off during the summer, but when the doors closed in May, they never reopened. It had been open for nearly 40 years.
Closed: May
Darkoo’s Chicken Shack
Co-owned by chef Donny Sirisavath, this restaurant closed in October, and we heard different stories from Sirisavath and the property owner. In December, Darkoo’s shared in an Instagram post that the restaurant at 4812 Bryan St. is permanently closed.
Cow Tipping Creamery
This dessert shop was located inside Thunderbird Pies at the Gaston-Garland-Grand intersection.
Closed: October
While the Preston Hollow location is still open, the Casa Linda Plaza restaurant shut its doors after seven years.
Closed: July
Yumilicious Frozen YogurtÂ
The yogurt shop opened the Greenville Avenue store in 2010 and closed because of high rent and not enough sales.
Closed: June
Rapscallion
Founded by the team behind Boulevardier in Bishop Arts and Hillside Tavern in East Dallas, Rapscallion closed after seven years on Lowest Greenville. But a new restaurant, Quarter Acre, is expected to open in its place.

Saint TacoÂ
The restaurant in the former BBBop Seoul Kitchen space on Greenville Avenue closed after about a year.
Closed: April
Khao Noodle ShopÂ
This eatery from Sirisavath was in the building on Bryan Street before Darkoo’s Chicken Shack opened there.
