The more than 100 works are the main event of the Summer of Sculpture at the gardens, and they showcase the craftsmanship of several dozen Shona artists.

Each piece in ZimSculpt was hand-selected, and many of the serpentine and semi-precious carvings weigh several tons and can reach heights of up to seven feet.

On certain days, visitors are invited to watch sculptors Passmore Mupindiko and Brighton Layson as they work with chisels, hammers, files and sandpaper.

ZimSculpt started May 1 and is open through Aug. 8. Tickets cost $10-$15 and can be purchased here.

The Arboretum recently released new safety guidelines. Face masks are not required when outdoors in the garden, but they are still recommended when social distancing is not possible. In all indoor spaces and during the Cool Thursdays concerts, face masks are required.

The Arboretum is located at 8525 Garland Road.Â
