Nearly 14,000 customers in East Dallas are without power Monday as a result of rotating power outages caused by severe winter weather.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas initiated the outages at 1:25 a.m. Monday because of record-breaking electric demand as people try to keep their homes warm. The outages are expected to last throughout Monday and until the “weather emergency ends,” according to a news release.
Rotating outages are controlled, temporary interruptions of electrical service that rotate through different parts of the electric grid. They may last up to several hours.
Neighbor Leslie Woodall, who lives on Winton Street, said on Nextdoor she was without power for an hour and a half. Jill Warren on Goodwin Avenue said her power had gone out four times since 1:30 a.m. Monday.
