White Rock Rowing is hosting a regatta this weekend, welcoming teams from across the United States.
The team is also having a lawn party near the boathouse, and the whole event is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
White Rock Rowing has been gaining national attention, especially from their performance in recent competitions. Naomi Geiger and Isabella Cooper won the Young National Championships in the U-17 women’s pair in June.
Earlier this month, we wrote about how the rowers did in competitions in Boston and Austin. In Austin, the women’s U-17 4+ team won first and finished almost a full minute ahead of the second place team.
Here’s what the coaches had to say about the athletes:
Men’s head coach Chris Leonard said, “The performance we witnessed out there is a very positive sign for the future of White Rock Rowing. We’re going to bring home a lot more medals in the near future. These athletes have the talent and the hunger to win tough competitions like this.”
The women’s head coach, Annie Couwenhoven, said, “Watching the more experienced youth encourage and support the beginners was the absolute best – the camaraderie is palpable, and it’s one of this team’s greatest assets.”
The White Rock Boathouse is located at 2920 White Rock Road.
