In late October, they participated in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. More than 11,000 athletes competed in it, the largest two-day rowing regatta in the world.

The women’s U-17 4+ team passed four boats within a matter of minutes, but then another boat crashed into them. They ended up finishing fifth.

Cox was Lucas van Witzenberg, and rowers were Katherine Adams, Bella Cooper, Zoe Cramer and Evie Fox.

The men’s U-17 4+ team began the race at the back of the pack but finished third overall. Cox was Aiden Dekock, and rowers were Joseph Moler, Mateo Calderon, Luke McCavit and Harrison Sears.

Men’s head coach Chris Leonard said, “The performance we witnessed out there is a very positive sign for the future of White Rock Rowing. We’re going to bring home a lot more medals in the near future. These athletes have the talent and the hunger to win tough competitions like this.”

One week later, the teams headed to the Head of the Colorado in Austin. The women’s U-17 4+ team won first, finishing almost a full minute before the second place team. And the men’s U-17 4+ placed second, beating the third-place boat by more than 60 seconds.

The women’s head coach, Annie Couwenhoven, commented on the athletes.

“Watching the more experienced youth encourage and support the beginners was the absolute best – the camaraderie is palpable, and it’s one of this team’s greatest assets,” she said.
