The Angelika Dallas Film Center will present its annual suspense fest Hitchcocktober, a month-long film homage to master of mystery, Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, in the Mockingbird Station mezzanine, just outside the Angelika Film Center. Every Thursday at 8 p.m. in October, guests are invited to lounge in front of Mockingbird Station’s large outdoor movie screen and take in a free showing of a classic Hitchcock film. On Oct. 3, 
enjoy an evening of food, drinks, music and a silent auction. The evening’s proceeds benefit the free public art programs of St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts. This year’s music is taken from the Cole Porter songbook and will be performed by the singers of the Cathedral Choir and their friends.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, 29 Pieces, an East Dallas-based arts nonprofit organization, will host its first MasterPEACE Conference for teachers, counselors, librarians, workshop leaders and others who work with students and clients of all ages. Participants will be trained in four lessons from the nonprofit’s MasterPEACE’s 14-lesson curriculum that use the arts to teach about non-violence to receive the tools needed to take the lessons directly into their classrooms and work space. The conference will feature a lunchtime talk with artist and SMU advertising professor Willie Baronet, creator of the “We Are All Homeless” project. In addition, there will be a performance by creative arts educators and spoken word artists Will Richey and Alejandro Perez Jr. The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) at Lifenet Texas, 9704 Skillman Street. If you just can’t get enough of the festivities after the weekend, on Monday, Oct. 6, from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Dallas Academy, located at 950 Tiffany Way, (west side of Lake Highlands and Buckner Blvd.) is hosting a guest speaker, blackland prairie expert, Matt White, in the Cafeteria/Auditorium. Copies of his books “Prairie Time: A Blackland Portrait” and “The Birds of Northeast Texas” will be available for purchase. Cash or check accepted.

Through Oct. 26, Dallas Children’s Theater hosts its hilarious musical take on the classic fairy tale, Princess Rapunzel.

‘The Cycles of the Fig Tree’ by Carlos Cázares at St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts center, in the Justus Sundermann Gallery, at 5100 Ross. Cázares, a Mexican visual artist specializing in the disciplines of painting, sculpture and graphics, seeks to expose his heart to the light of the Creator, and constantly seeks a way to impress the life of God on his canvases. Through his experimentation with pigments and mineral deposits, he has found that materials such as gold and silver offer a beautiful refraction of light that enriches his work. His abstract works reflect an appreciation of ancient techniques applied in a contemporary setting.

Concerts at the Arboretum
. Every Thursday night, the Dallas Arboretum hosts a different band on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn. Bring your family, friends and your favorite food and drinks, and enjoy a concert overlooking White Rock Lake. All fall concerts are from 7-9 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
