The Tango Frogs that lived for years on the roof of Greenville Avenue’s Taco Cabana are hopping over to their new home at the Truck Yard.
The beloved 10-foot-tall dancing frogs by Bob “Daddy-O” Wade were a fixture on the Taco Cabana roof for six years. When the location closed earlier this year, the frogs were left homeless.
The frogs have called Lower Greenville home for decades. In the 1980s, the dancing amphibians sat atop the Tango nightclub, where the Taco Cabana later sat. After a fire, the frogs were separated and didn’t return to their original home until 2014.
“The Tango Frogs have been a member of the Taco Cabana family for years and are an iconic part of the Lowest Greenville neighborhood,” said Rich Stockinger, CEO and president of the Fiesta Restaurant Group that operates Taco Cabana. “It was so important for us to keep the frogs in the neighborhood.”
Taco Cabana will donate the Tango Frogs to the Truck Yard at 5624 Sears St. The frogs will be prominently positioned atop the beer garden’s roof facing Sears Street.
“I couldn’t be more hoppy,” Truck Yard owner Jason Boso said. “Truck Yard has always desired and worked toward being an iconic Dallas location that our city can be proud of. We will position the ‘Tango Frogs’ so they can be an Instagram-worthy staple in our city and to show appreciation of this ‘unfrogettable’ artwork.”
