Ten Woodrow Wilson High School seniors will receive State Fair of Texas Pete Schenkel $5,000 Scholarships.
Janelle Ferrence, Kayla Finstein, Laura Garrison, Graeme Hamilton, Cal Little, Russell Regan, Drew Scherger, Erin Shilling, Breanna Simpson and Ilana Smirin will be honored at the Music Hall at Fair Park April 29 in a ceremony emceed by Channel 4 news anchor Clarice Tinsley. As long as the students attend a Texas school and maintain a 3.0 GPA during their college career, they’ll receive $1,250 in scholarship funds annually.
Since 1992, the State Fair has donated more than $3 million to the scholarship program for past participants in the Fair’s livestock program, as well as students from high schools surrounding Fair Park, including Woodrow, Irma L. Rangel, James Madison, Lincoln and North Dallas.
The Fair will launch its new Summer Adventures in Fair Park May 4. Summer Adventures will feature food, rides and cabanas on a portion of Fair Park for a single admission fee; it will be open weekends throughout May and then daily June 7-Aug. 18.
