The coffee company confirmed the location with the Advocate in January. It’s the old Taco Cabana space at the corner of Greenville and Alta Avenue, an area with a notable history in our neighborhood.

There’s a sign on the building that says the store is just days from opening. And outside, signs have been placed in the parking lot, marking to-go-only spots, and a drive-thru menu has been installed.

A spokesperson for Starbucks did not immediately respond to a request for clarification on an opening date.

When the Advocate broke the news about Starbucks’ plans, neighbors complained on Facebook about traffic issues they predicted the store would cause, among other things; click on the Facebook logo on the post below to see the comments.

Several other shops that serve coffee, including La La Land Kind Cafe and Boulangerie by Village Baking Co., are within walking distance from the Starbucks site. The Merchant, which closed a few months ago, also served coffee.

We’re expecting a few other shops to be opening in the Lowest Greenville area. River Pig Saloon will take the old Flatbread pizza space, and Crossroads Trading Co. is replacing The Merchant. Also, a gift shop called Carriage House covered the windows of a retail space with fliers, but we haven’t heard of any progress there to date.
