On June 5, PopUp Bagels opened its doors on Henderson Avenue.
Popularized by social media, the “Not Famous but Known” brand has a simple bagel menu with five classic bagels and three staple spread options. Bagels include plain, everything, poppy seed, sesame and salt, while spreads include plain, scallion and salted butter. They are available for purchase in packs of three, half-dozen, a dozen or 30, starting at $15. The menu also features weekly rotating schmears. The novelty “schmears” and “Grip, Rip & Dip” technique of eating bagels have set the shop apart from others. PopUp Bagels has collaborated with various brands, restaurants and people to formulate the schmears, including Oreo, Wingstop and Kraft.
The opening festivities featured a DJ blasting throwback pop hits, employees singing and dancing while preparing hot bagels, an exclusive Texas Jalapeño Cheddar schmear, free hats and tote bags for every customer, and morning rain. Next-door neighbors, Salt & Straw, also handed out free ice cream to customers. A line outside the shop formed around 7 a.m., according to a photo on the PopUp Bagels’ Instagram page, but the crowd dwindled as rain started. Big crowds formed later on Friday, as well as over the weekend.
“We heard about PopUp Bagels through social media,” customers Ashley Byun and Rian Mercado said.
Byun added, “I have been to the Inwood Village location before, but I’m excited that there is one on Henderson now.”
PopUp Bagels first started in Connecticut in 2020, but has since expanded to over 40 locations. This is the second location in Dallas, the first opened at Inwood Village in April, and there are plans for locations in McKinney and Houston, according to PopUp’s website.
“We’re so excited to have PopUp Bagels in Texas,” said Don Meij, PopUp Bagels’ Texas partner. “Dallas, in particular, is the ideal place to introduce the brand, with its strong and evolving food scene. We believe PopUp’s focused, energetic, high-quality approach to bagels will resonate here.”
PopUp Bagels is located at 2323 N. Henderson Ave., Suite 105. It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
