The Santa Fe Trail pedestrian bridge that crosses over Garland Road will close beginning April 4.

The closure, to go into effect at 7 a.m. April 4, is expected to last through late summer. A detour will be implemented for trail users during that time, and they’ll need to factor in extra time to get around the construction.

Below is a map of the detour route. Coming from the north, trail users will have to go around the west side of Arboretum Village, head east on Gaston Avenue and cross Garland/Grand at a marked area.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the bridge needs to be closed so construction workers can widen the Garland Road lanes under the bridge.

TxDOT also said in the news release that incentives are in place to expedite the work. The overall, $6.3 million project to reconfigure the Gaston-Garland-Grand “3G” intersection is expected to be complete in spring 2023.

The most recent update came earlier in March. The Advocate reported that traffic along Gaston Avenue would be limited to one lane in each direction.
