Emrich was hired in 2011 as the public address announcer for the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. He lived east of White Rock Lake with his wife, Chris, at the time he was hired, the Advocate previously reported. He replaced Jody Dean as stadium announcer.

In addition to announcing for the Cowboys, the longtime sports reporter worked at KRLD 105.3 The Fan until his death.

He is survived by his son Ted Emrich; his granddaughter Jane Emrich; brothers David Emrich of Houston, Alan Emrich of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Donnie Emrich of New Orleans; and sister Robin Knapp of Gulfport, Mississippi, according the Morning News.

The newspaper reported that the funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Family Cathedral of Praise in Mesquite. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church in Dallas or to Family Cathedral of Praise.
