Aware is a component fund of The Dallas Foundation. Each year, it chooses organizations that help Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers as well as research institutions studying the treatment, prevention and cure of the disease.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Society is a recipient and will use the grant money to expand the Memory Garden nature program that includes horticulture, conversations and crafts to enrich the lives of people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Juliette Fowler Communities will use the grant money to support its dementia care programs, including I’m Still Here.

Wilshire Baptist Church also received funds, which will support the Friday Friends program. It addresses the need to provide rest for caretakers of relatives with dementia, many of whom have to provide constant care for their relatives. Friday Friends allows the person with Alzheimer’s to enjoy a day of art, music and games.
