This year, there will be a parade and a fun run. The fun run, about 1.2 miles, starts at 8 a.m. July 4. That’s followed by the parade; the line up begins at 9:15 a.m. so the parade can start at 10 a.m.

Both events start at the corner of Lakewood and Cambria.

There’s no need to register in advance to participate in the fun run or the parade. Just remember, no one is allowed to hand out or throw treats along the parade route.

T-shirts and tank tops are available now through July 3 at the T Shop in Lakewood Shopping Center, and they’ll also be available on the day of the parade.

Afterward, neighbors can head to Tokalon Park for awards and refreshments.

Last year’s theme for the event was Lakewood Opening Ceremony, a tribute to the Olympics. And in 2020, the parade was canceled because of the pandemic.

But the parade dates back to 1962.
