Tuesday, coffee enthusiasts mourned the loss of Foxtrot, a Chicago-based coffee shop that permanently closed citing company bankruptcy.

The abrupt closure came as a shock to employees and customers at noon yesterday. A flood of social media posts shared with frustration, sorrow and confusion surfaced on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and NextDoor.

As coffee lovers search for their new go-to spot, here are a few coffee shops in East Dallas to consider in your search for the ideal cup.

Merit Coffee 

Merit Coffee, a San Antonio-based coffee shop serves an array of coffee at 4124 Abrams Road. The Lakewood location marked its fifth store in Dallas on Oct. 20. Its hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends.

Ascension Coffee 

Ascension Coffee, located in Casa Linda at 9353 Garland Road serves a menu including craft coffee, wine and food. Store hours are 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday-Tuesday and 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

East Dallas Middle Ground 

East Dallas Middle Ground is a family-owned, neighborhood coffee house in White Rock Shopping Center. The establishment is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Good Boy Cafe 

Good Boy Cafe is a mini coffee shop inside Koneko Studio, located at 3901 Main St. The shop serves pastries and coffee from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is owned by career tattoo artist Linda Bishop.

Toasted Coffee

Toasted Coffee, A West Coast-inspired eatery located in Lower Greenville at 5420 Ross Avenue serves artisanal dishes including specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, desserts and of course, coffee.

Tom N Toms Coffee

Tom N Toms Coffee, a Korean coffee shop in Old East Dallas at 2325 N. Fitzhugh Ave. Tom N Toms sells a variety of traditional coffee drinks along with teas and smoothies. A small brewed coffee costs about $3, and a small latte is about $4.50. 

Halcyon

Halcyon, an Austin-based chain also has locations in San Antonio and California and carries a menu of salads, sandwiches, wraps and other mostly light bites. Happy hour is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday-Friday.
