McIver Chapel in Wilshire Baptist ChurchEven as public health officials are scrambling to deal with another potential ebola case in Frisco, Wilshire Baptist Church plans to host a community service of prayer and remembrance tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 8) at 7:30 p.m. at the church, 4316 Abrams Road near Mockingbird Lane.

According to George Mason, Wilshire pastor and our monthly worship columnist in the magazine: “The prayer vigil will bring together our congregation, the Liberian community in Dallas, health care professionals and government officials. It will be non-political in nature. Our focus will be on grieving the death of Eric Duncan and praying for Louise Troh, supporting their families and friends and those far beyond Dallas who are threatened by this deadly disease.”

Troh was Duncan’s girlfriend, and it was recently reported in the Morning News that Duncan returned to Dallas in part to marry Troh, who is a congregant at Wilshire. Mason talked with James Ragland at the News about Troh, Duncan and how the Wilshire congregation responded to this issue in an article that was complimentary of the inclusive nature of the church and Mason.
