  • Are you ready to run in the third annual Santa Fe 5k, “the Best Happy Hour Race in October,” to benefit the Friends of Santa Fe Trail tonight, Oct. 10? This is the primary money-raising activity to fund projects to improve the Santa Fe Hike/Bike Trail between White Rock Lake and Downtown. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at
Lindsley Park, 722 Tenison Memorial. Entrance into the race is $15-45.
  • Also tonight, the Lymphoma Research Foundation is hosting the Don a Mask, Uncover a Cure event, which is a wine-tasting masquerade, to benefit the foundation. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at
Times Ten Cellars, 6324 Prospect. For more information call 713.724.7202. Tickets are $60.
  • If you haven’t had a chance to go by St. Matthew’s Cathedral Arts, a new center for arts and culture in East Dallas, this is your last chance to see their free exhibition featuring photographer Carolyn Brown and writer/illustrator Richard Perry. Both longtime observers of Mexico’s art and folk customs, the artists have combined their talents for this photographic exhibition. The exhibit is at
St. Matthew’s Cathedral in the Great Hall Gallery, 5100 Ross. Call 214.887.6552 for more. The exhibit is free.
  • Also, don’t forget the Dallas Arboretum is hosting Concerts at the Arboretum through the month of October, ending Oct. 31. Every Thursday night, the Dallas Arboretum hosts a different band on the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage and Lawn. Bring your family and friends and your favorite food and drinks, and enjoy a concert overlooking White Rock Lake. All fall concerts are from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Dallas Arboretum, 8525 Garland, reservations@dallasarboretum.org or 214.515.6615, $15-$17 adult members, $25-$27 adult nonmembers, $10 children ages 3-12, package deals available.
  • Finally, there’s one more event but it’s not until Tuesday. Dallas Heritage Village is launching a new lecture series to honor Nancy Farina, and the first lecture features bestselling author and master of historical fiction Kathleen Kent, who will be discussing her latest novel, “The Outcasts.” The event is out of our area, at Browder Springs Hall at Dallas Heritage Village, 1515 S. Harwood, but Kent lives in Lakewood. So if you’d like to get out of the neighborhood to support a neighbor, the event is Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
