On Tuesday, March 19, Dallas Park and Recreation officials suspended water-related activities at White Rock Lake Park. The decision came as the city of Plano experiences a sanitary sewage overflow that affected White Rock Creek and White Rock Lake, manager Andrea Hawkins,  confirmed with the Advocate.

A recent press release from the department stated park visitors can resume water activities such as fishing, boating, and rowing. While swimming remains prohibited, the water launch area at White Rock Lake Dog Park is available for pets.

Dallas Water Utilities will continue to take water samples between now through Friday, March 29 to ensure the lake levels remain within normal limits. The recent rainfall can present pollutants including bacteria in the lake.

Following best practices, park officials will continue receiving testing data from Dallas Water Utilities and will enact its maintenance operations protocols for restricting water recreation activities if water quality deteriorates from upstream incidents and major weather storms.
