Just got off the phone with John Leos with Turner Construction. He says the Wachovia bank at Abrams and Richmond is slated to be finished by Nov. 14, and the bank plans to open Nov. 28.

He also noted that complaints from neighborhood residents didn’t stop when Wachovia agreed to incorporate the old gas station into its design. "It was pretty much non-stop" for awhile, he says, but in recent weeks the angry phone calls have stopped.

And, good news for those of you worried about the enamel panels: They’re currently in the loving care of a refurbisher who’s cleaning them, knocking the dents out and it sounds like possibly repainting them to a slightly darker color then the original. Those will be returned and go back up within the next two weeks, Leos says. The remainder of the building is being completed with composite metal panels and stucco.

"When it’s all said and done," Leos says, "It’s going to be a really nice-looking building."

As for the piece of land adjacent to Wachovia that should house new neighborhood retail — so far nothing. It’s owned, I’m told, by CDC Lakewood LP. I’m hoping the company’s laywer gets back to me with an update soon.
