Veritas Wine Room isn’t going to close, as was originally planned.
The wine bar on North Henderson Avenue announced it would stay open in a Facebook post March 8.
“We have unexpectedly reached an agreement with our landlords that allows us to continue doing what we love to do — serving the Dallas wine community,” Veritas wrote in the post. “We are as surprised as you are!”
Veritas, which opened in 2008, also used Facebook in January to share that it planned to close around the end of March.
Bradley Anderson, who co-owns the concept with his brother, Brooks Anderson, said in an email that Veritas had initially decided not to use its five-years option because of rent demands and expected rent increases with the new landlord, New York-based Acadia Realty Trust.
“Shortly after announcing our closing, the landlord approached us and offered an agreement that made sense for us to stay open,” Bradley Anderson said.
Acadia Realty Trust owns multiple properties along North Henderson Avenue, including the buildings occupied by Veritas Wine Room, The Skellig, Sprouts, Barcadia, Bonobos, Corepower Yoga, Fireside Pies, Tecovas and Houndstooth Coffee, among others.
The $85.4 million purchase included 15 retail assets and future development and redevelopment sites, Acadia Realty Trust announced in a May 2022 news release.
“Significant redevelopment and densification opportunities will enable [Acadia] to add retail and office space to the Portfolio and further connect and activate this already thriving district,” Acadia wrote in the release. “These improvements will have an emphasis on placemaking and will bring distinct architecture, public spaces, local art and expanded parking capacity to Henderson Avenue.”
The Anderson brothers are also behind Lakewood’s Hillside Tavern and Oak Cliff’s Boulevardier. Rapscallion, which closed on Lowest Greenville in May 2022, was another of their concepts.
Veritas will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year.
