Parades rule the weekend: There’s the Lakewood "Lakewood’s Got Talent" parade, which begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of Cambria and Lakewood; The Hillside parade starts at 9 a.m. at 6463 Lang Circle; The Little Forest Hills "American Pop Culture" parade starts at 10 a.m.

… but why don’t you start the day off with a run? The Dallas Running Club Independence Day 10K and 5K starts at 8 a.m. at Winfrey Point — I wonder if I can get a head start in order to make it back to cover the parades. (There’s also a 1.5 mile fun run at 8 a.m., preceding the aforementioned Lakewood parade)

… or opt to sweat it out at the Flagpole Hill 8K, which starts at 7:30 a.m. at Flagpole Hill, near Northwest and Buckner.

Return to Lakewood’s Whole Foods parking lot at 6 p.m. for an evening of fun, food and fireworks courtesy of Lakewood Country Club; or return to Flagpole Hill, as it offers a great vantage point for the Fair Park fireworks show

And dog owners, take note!  Our very own Flying Doggies — a business we dished about in our July Advocate — Celebrates the July 4 opening of a new salon selling its products, which are perfect for pampered pooches: collars, no-water doggie cleaners and grooming gear, and those awesome veggie treats (I tried ‘em out on my pup and she’s a slave to them now). The ribbon cutting is a 1 p.m. at the Crown Salon, 5757 W. Lovers, #111 — grand opening festivities from 12-5 p.m.
