In the market for some good, (really) old-fashioned Sunday fun after a firework-filled Saturday? For the 29th consecutive year, the Fine Arts Chamber Players (FACP) present the Basically Beethoven Festival. The festival’s mission is to "[fill] each Sunday afternoon in July with music in the middle of summer — without the heat" and as such, each performance is held in the Grand Hall, adjacent to the Discovery Gardens in Fair Park.
The four week festival draws musicians from institutions such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and the Dallas Opera Orchestra. The doors open at 2:00 p.m. with a 2:30 p.m. pre-concert recital that is put on by youth competition winners. This week, the honor goes to Christina Kwon, a violinist who won the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Competition. The feature performance starts at 3:00 p.m., as Imperial Brass plays music from Beethoven, Holst, Soussa, Bach, and Gabrieli.
The four-Sunday event is free, and concert-goers are reminded that the dress code is casual because after all, it is summer.
