During one of the mayoral confabs, candidate Sam Coats suggested Dallas try to get a National League expansion team and build a baseball stadium downtown to house the team.

Ignore, for a moment, that every single one of us — save for the denizens of sports talk radio, who apparently have nothing better to do with their lives — are quite tired of all stadium discussions. There isn’t a stadium here, it’s over and done with, and we don’t need to go through any of it again. What Coats apparently doesn’t realize is that bringing a National league team to town would force us to see the Chicago Cubs play. As a long-time Cubs fan, that’s a fate I wouldn’t wish on anyone, even those who regularly take me to task for being an idiot. To paraphrase Joseph Conrad: "The horror, the horror."
