Well, the Rangers won their Cactus League game against the Brewers yesterday, but the big news was in a game before the "A" game. Eric Gagne, the new and oft-injured closer, threw 11 or 12 pitches and, as I read on a DMN blog, "his arm didn’t fall off." That is probably the best news for the Rangers, given that as a general rule, they never have enough pitching. We also had a chance to see the "old man" Kenny Lofton pick up his first hit and Sammy Sosa hit another couple of "warning track" fly ball outs. I still don’t see the point of giving Sammy a roster spot (which they have to do by Thursday or risk "losing" Sammy to what I’m sure are the many, many other teams willing to pick him up), but it looks like that’s a done deal. So expect at least a couple of months of Sammy before he’s released around June/July so that we can finally find out if Jason Botts can hit big-league pitching.
