If your New Year’s resolution has anything to do with making the world a better place, you can start early by attending a New Year’s Eve shindig at Bodega Bar that is raising money for the Gustavo Ipina Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The story behind this nonprofit is both heartwrenching and heartwarming, and the Woodrow Wilson High School scholarship recipients are so deserving (we wrote about a couple of them most recently in a July 2008 cover story).

The 7 p.m.-2 a.m. party requires no cover charge; instead a $25 cash donation to play Texas Hold ‘Em is the way you can support the GIMS fund. If you’re a Texas Hold ‘Em newbie, no worries — the $25 is the only money you’ll be out. It’s a chips only game, with the grand prize winner receiving $200 and a bottle of champagne. (And all the losers can take part in the complimentary midnight champagne toast.) Call 214.528.9463 to pre-register. Full details after the jump:
