A marketing study by two California universities used Dallas as one of three cities to research how much people explore the attractions in their own backyards. And they found that people who move to Dallas see fewer attractions in their first year here than a tourist sees in a week. This New York Times story mentions the study.

That’s probably true for most cities. This summer, I visited the Muhammad Ali Center, and none of the Louisvillians I know have been.

In Dallas, I’ve checked out the Sixth Floor Museum, but only as a way to entertain out-of-towners. And I confess that I’ve never been to the Dallas World Aquarium. Maybe that’s something to add to the resolutions, along with frequenting the Dallas Arboretum, the Bath House Cultural Center and the Shakepeare Festival of Dallas.
