A few years ago Starbucks launched a plan to open 100 community stores across the country in underrepresented neighborhoods.

Community store concepts are part of a Starbucks initiative to support youth and economic development in diverse, underserved areas of the country, according to company literature. “Each community store seeks to hire from the neighborhood and partner with local women- and minority-owned businesses.” And Starbucks works with a diverse set of contractors for store construction and remodels.

Community stores also feature classroom space to provide in-store job training for people ages 16-24 who aren’t in school or working. The class room space also works for public events and programming. The concept includes a partnership with a local United Way chapter to facilitate relevant community programs.

In 2018, Starbucks opened a similar concept in Oak Cliff/Redbird.

A few years ago the Casa View Shopping Center launched a $10 million revitalization effort. Tenants including Stone’s Ace Hardware and Tacos Y Mas anchor the development today.

The City of Dallas is investing some $20 million into the overall redevelopment of the area’s infrastructure, according to Shop Companies. In 2020 we reported on the Casa View Neighborhood Empowerment Zone to create more workforce-affordable homes in the area.

A Starbucks spokesperson says the Casa View store will employ 25 and include a drive-thru.
