  • Dallas ISD high school JROTC units and bands played a prominent role in the 2013 Veterans Day parade and ceremony in downtown Dallas yesterday, Nov. 11, and the Woodrow Wilson Wildcat Band and ROTC was one of them.
  • The Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce will honor teacher Elizabeth Dry with Alex Sanger Elementary School as the 2013 teacher of the year at a luncheon next Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakehill Preparatory’s Alice and Erle NyeFamily Environmental Science Center, 7401 Ferguson. The luncheon is sponsored by Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake. Please RSVP if you are planning to attend: $30 for members/$35 for non-members.
  • The third grade teachers at Lakewood Elementary are looking for more parent helpers. You can volunteer here.
  • J. L. Long Middle School is hosting an open house on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Meet the principal and teachers, tour the campus, learn about the school. Go to the website for more.
  • The Book Fair Fall 2013 is coming up on Nov. 18-22, and they’re looking for volunteers. You must be a registered DISD volunteer. Go to the website to see which slots are available.
  • Victor H. Hexter Elementary is hosting its annul food drive this week until Nov. 15. Parents can help them provide baskets of food for families in need by donating non-perishable foods based on the grade level of their student. See this list.
