The YMCA at White Rock broke ground on its proposed 30,000 square foot facility on Friday at the property at Gaston and Loving. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2014.

Dozens of people — staff, board members, supporters, donors — attended the event. White Rock board chair Alise Cortez emceed, and vice president of operations Casey Klein spoke a few words. Cortez also announced a partnership between the Y at White Rock and Doctor’s Hospital at White Rock Lake, and CEO of Doctors Hospital Jay Krishnaswamy spokes as well.

The YMCA has been serving East Dallas for more than 50 years. The White Rock branch was initially housed in the Parks House on Worth and Abrams, from 1958 until 1998 when it moved to its current location on Gaston near Garland.
