Restaurants and bars in the area are required to close by midnight unless they receive a specific use permit from the City of Dallas. Dive bar The Old Crow, for example, has a specific use permit to stay open past midnight.

If approved, the permit would allow Rye to stay open until 2 a.m. Currently, Rye closes at 10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10 p.m. Sunday.

Consultant Rob Baldwin says one neighborhood meeting has been held with nearby associations to discuss the rezoning request.

As of publication, no date has been set yet for a City Plan Commission hearing, according to the city’s zoning website.

Rye opened in August 2021 next to Apothecary, a cocktail lounge with the same owner. The East Dallas restaurant was the second Rye location, with the other in McKinney.

It serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.

“Approachable, seasonal cuisine that is elevated beyond through the introduction of the uncommon,” the restaurant describes itself on its website. “We want to blend forgotten old school hospitality with new dishes and pairings that look toward the future.”
