The original Velvet Taco, located on Henderson Avenue near Central Expressway, is closing, The Dallas Morning News reports.
It has been serving creative tacos throughout the day and during late night since 2011. Jan. 2, 2023, will be the last day for the Henderson location.
A new Velvet Taco is expected to open in Deep Ellum later in January 2023. The Henderson Avenue employees have been offered an opportunity to move there, and CEO Clay Dover tells the News that he believes Deep Ellum is more suited to a late-night taco restaurant, compared to the Henderson location.
Last year, California-based private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners purchased a majority stake in Velvet Taco. Another firm, L Catterton, is also an investor in the chain.
In other Knox-Henderson happenings, the News also reported that The Porch is closing temporarily in January 2023 for a renovation.
