The restaurant is housed in the old Firestone building at 1720 Greenville Ave. Most recently, the building was home to Flatbread Co. pizza, which closed this year.

This will be the third location for River Pig Saloon but its first in Texas. The others are in Oregon, and a fourth is on the way in Arizona.

River Pig Saloon got its name from the men, called river pigs, who used rivers to transport timber to saw mills.

Restaurant owner Ramzy Hattar told us in August that he chose Dallas because he has friends here. Though he considered other locations around the city, he selected Lower Greenville because the neighborhood draws in business during the day and night.

He also said that the location had sufficient parking and a patio, two other must-haves for the restaurant.

Hattar commissioned Dallas-based artist Rasheal Winters of Created Art Co. to complete a mural for the newest River Pig Saloon. Winters is also behind the Lakewood mural at Hillside Village shopping center at the Mockingbird-Abrams intersection.

River Pig Saloon serves items such as burgers, sandwiches and salads, plus wine and cocktails. It is open 2 p.m.-12 a.m. daily.
