Porky typically is concerned about how potholes affect automobile traffic because, after all, pigs really aren’t all that excited about riding bicycles.
But this sneaky pothole, located at the intersection of Lakewood and Lawther, is located where a bunch of bicyclists also travel, and it’s tricky to spot when you’re pedaling or motoring along. Yes, there is a stop sign in each direction, but that intersection isn’t particularly known for cars or bikes completely slowing down.
In fact, a few years ago, Porky’s car nearly impaled a cyclist who blew through the stop sign on Lakewood, rode over the spot where this pothole is located and almost rammed his bike through the stopped car’s windshield. Porky could see the whites of the cyclist’s eyes even through the guy’s stylish shades.
As you can see from the picture, Porky has plenty of room to waddle into the hole, but unlike many potholes in Dallas, this one features collapsed asphalt as opposed to missing asphalt.
It’s much easier to spot a pothole where the asphalt has simply washed away, since the cement or gravel base is a different color than the asphalt. A collapsed asphalt hole looks like regular street until you’re right up on the pothole, and then your tire crashes right into it.
