Proceeds from the reception and sale benefit 29 Pieces, an arts organization headed in part by neighborhood resident Karen Blessen. (You can click here to read a 2005 story about Blessen from an early Advocate.) One aspect of 29 Pieces, the MasterPEACE program, has provided a hands-on arts curriculum for 3,000 students in 16 Dallas schools. The program focuses on teaching conflict resolution and problem solving through art.

The Sept. 22 reception includes art from among hundreds of submissions to The Peace Project addressing the theme “Make Peace”; art from five Dallas artists (Willie Baronet, Rebecca McWatters, Barbara Miller, Karen Newhouse and Bob Shema) also will be included.
