The Dallas Police Department placed an officer on administrative leave after he was seen in a video punching a man in the face during a brawl in Deep Ellum.
A video circulating on Reddit that was posted Tuesday shows a fight between men and women near Elm Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.
Officers are seen beginning to break up the fight, and one of them starts telling a man to back away. Next, the officer is shown pushing the man to the ground and punching him repeatedly in the face. The other officers soon pull him away from the man.
A spokesperson for Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said he “would like to commend those officers who recognize their duty to intervene in this incident and deescalated the situation,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
Internal Affairs is investigating the incident.
