Deep Ellum is welcoming a new bookstore, restaurant and bar into the neighborhood.
Poets Books, which originated in Oak Cliff by poet Marco Cavazos, officially opened earlier this year, but the store is hosting a grand opening 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at 2649 Main St, #160. The bookshop specializes in unconventional literature, poetry, novels, non-fiction, classic books, books in Spanish and rare genres like modern Japanese fiction, according to a Deep Ellum Foundation press release. The grand opening is expected to include music, cocktails/mocktails, swag bags and cigars.

Palma, a Phoenix restaurant, is opening a location in Deep Ellum on Cinco de Mayo — Monday, May 5 at 2625 Main St. Palma promises “damn good food,” according to its website, and will be open for brunch during weekends and serve a variety of meals, including sushi, burgers and short ribs.
At the same location, by the same team and opening on the same day as Palma is Ghost Donkey, a tequila and mezcal bar. Ghost Donkey was born in New York City but claims to have a Mexican soul. The bar has several locations across the country as well as in Australia and New Zealand. In addition to cocktails, beer and wine, Ghost Donkey also plans to serve a selection of tacos, quesadillas and non-alcoholic drinks.

Later this year, the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant Tatsu is planning to open another eatery called Kappo Tatsu next door where the bar Tina’s Continental used to be. Kappo Tatsu is expected to be more affordable than Tatsu and serve food that’s less formal and not focused on fish, according to a Dallas Morning News article. This new restaurant will be located at 3309 Elm St., # 115 and is expected to open in the fall or winter.
