Nexus Family Recovery Center is a nonprofit agency that provides substance use disorder treatments for women and their children, including pregnant women. The Doswell Medical Building is about 10,000 square feet and will be the first stop for all women at Nexus, according to a press release. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to provide an expanded admissions area that will be open seven days a week, 12 detoxification beds with an adjacent nursing station, group counseling spaces and tranquil common areas, among other features.

“The opening of the Doswell Medical Building is a defining moment for Nexus and the families we serve,” Nexus Family Recovery Center CEO Heather Ormand said in the press release. “This facility is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of hope, healing and a fresh start. With the generous support of the Doswell Foundation and our dedicated community of donors, we are creating a space that provides the high-quality, compassionate care every woman and child at Nexus deserves. This is just the beginning of our vision to transform our campus and the lives of those who walk through our doors.”

The Doswell Medical Building is a step toward Nexus’ long-term campus vision as it is the first completed project in Nexus’ multi-phase campus vision plan. Opening the Doswell Medical Building is part of the $86 million-“Recovery Rising” campaign, which is intended to rebuild and renew the Nexus campus in five phases during the next eight years. More than $10 million has already been raised for the first phase, thanks to multiple donors, including the Doswell Foundation.

“The Doswell Foundation has been a proud supporter of Nexus for many years, firmly believing in its vital mission to help every woman on her path to recovery,” Doswell Foundation Chairperson and CEO Beverly Fricke said in the press release. “The Doswell Medical Building represents a key part of Nexus’ future, providing a fresh start for the women and children who seek treatment. Our investment reflects our shared commitment to compassionate care in a state-of-the-art facility, ensuring dignity and hope for those who entrust Nexus with their journey to healing.”

The campus transformation is expected to enhance accessibility, care quality and operational efficiency as well as double Nexus’ current reach to serve 5,500 individuals yearly by 2031.

“The Doswell Medical Building represents more than just a new facility for Nexus — it’s a commitment to elevating the standard of care for women and children in recovery,” HKS Design Director Chad Porter said in the press release. “Our goal is to create a space that embodies dignity, hope and healing, offering a compassionate environment where every person can take their first step toward a brighter future.“
