The Texas Department of Transportation said lane closures and traffic shifts are expected on north and southbound State Highway 78 (aka Garland Road/Grand Avenue) from 7 p.m. today until 6 a.m. tomorrow.

After 6 a.m. Thursday, all lanes of SH 78 will be in a new configuration. And daily lane closures should be expected through fall 2023 as work continues on the bridge and sidewalks.

The $6.3 million project is still expected to be completed in the fall, weather permitting.

April was the last time TxDOT alerted us to changing traffic patterns at the intersection.

In February, the state’s transportation department released an outline of the steps to be taken throughout this year, leading up to the completion of the project.

Construction on the intersection reconfiguration project began in December 2021. TxDOT initially said that work would be finished by spring 2023. That date was pushed back several months, but the department said fall is still within the original time limits of the contract.

The 3G intersection has been an annoyance for many neighbors, but recently, people have been talking about the dangerous conditions along Garland Road and East Grand.
