Last night the Greenland Hills Neighborhood Association met for their general monthly meeting. When the agenda topic of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade came up, I sat on the edge of my seat. The neighbors were asked if they had any complaints about the St. Patrick’s Day festivities that took place last Saturday. I was ready to document stories of revelers in various states of inebriation meeting face to face with angry homeowners.

A moment of silence passed before a couple of neighbors spoke up, warmly praising the clean up crew responsible for Lower Greenville. Neighbors said that the crew “quickly cleared up debris and litter despite the gusty winds last weekend.” They also reported that none of the party-goers messed with any of Greenland Hill’s numerous “no parking” signs.

Wait, what? No reports of frat boys scuffling in the street? Nobody messing up the lawn? Nobody vomiting in the flower bed? Before moving on to the next agenda topic, another neighbor expressed gratitude for the Dallas Police Department’s “amazing professional behavior.”

I’ve yet to hear feedback from other neighborhoods near Lower Greenville, but after hearing the responses of our neighbors at the Greenland Hills meeting, one might think that Dallas’ push for a “family friendly” St. Patrick’s Parade in 2013 may have actually worked.
