The Dallas Symphony Orchestra showcases a mix of musicians from across Dallas-Fort Worth, three of which are from our Lakewood community. Here are three neighborhood musicians performing with the orchestra.

Brent Ross, Oboe

Brent Ross joined the DSO as second oboist in 2008, following four seasons as Associate Principal/second oboe in the San Antonio Symphony. He has participated in festivals such as the Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, Tanglewood and Aspen. An alumnus of Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Juilliard  and the New England Conservatory, Brent’s principal teachers include Elizabeth Camus and John Ferrillo. Ross lives in East Dallas with his wife Claire and their three children. They enjoy playing at White Rock Lake, playing music together and listening to Dad make oboe reeds.

Haley Hoops, Second Horn

Haley Hoops has been the Second Horn player of the Dallas Symphony since 1999. She has performed with orchestras across the globe, including, the orchestras of Detroit, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Milwaukee. A member of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, she has performed since 2018 as the Second Horn of the Mainly Mozart Festival in San Diego. In 2012, she co-commissioned and premiered the Sonata for Horn by James Stephenson at the International Horn Workshop in Denton. In 2013, Hoops competed in the International Horn Competition of America and won First Prize. Hoops was also was invited to play as the solo horn player with Adele on her 2016 Dallas tour date. In 2020, she started a YouTube channel called “haleyhoops” to help influence aspiring horn players.

Jimin Lim, Second Violin

Violinist Jimin Lim is from Nashville Symphony, where she has played with the second violin section since 2017 and acting as associate principal second this past season. She has also performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as a substitute player. During her summer months, Lim has participated in festivals including the Britt Music and Arts Festival, where she played as first violin section since 2018. She has also spent her summers at the Aspen Music Festival, where she was recipient of the Dorothy and Richard Starling Foundation Scholarship and studied with Alexander Kerr, Robert Lipsett and Bing Wang. A native of Busan, South Korea, Lim was born into a musical family and began her violin studies at age 6. She has received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance from Korean National University of the Arts, where she studied with the late Nam-Yun Kim. In addition, she holds Performance Diplomas in both solo and orchestral studies from Indiana University, where she studied with Alexander Kerr.
