Earlier this week, the Advocate reported the sighting of Nick and Nora’s two eaglets added to the nest. To help these new parents, we asked our neighbors for suggestions on what to name the eaglets.
While none of these names are official, here are a few standout names so far from our neighbors:
“Whitey and Rocky”
This unofficial name is used by one of the Bald Eagle’s photographers, as it playfully references White Rock Lake.
“Nickie & Asta”
Many residents suggested naming the eaglets Nickie and Asta. This tribute honors the dog, Asta and the son, Nick Jr, from the 1934 film The Thin Man, featuring husband-and-wife detectives Nick and Nora.
“Dallas & Texas”
Of course, what better way to honor Dallas’ wildlife than a name like Dallas and Texas?
“Jack & Jill”
A classic choice inspired by the nursery rhyme, Jack for a boy and Jill for a girl, perfect for the brother and sister duo.
“Lady & Tramp”
Inspired by the classic Disney film Lady and the Tramp, these names also nod to White Rock Lake, with Lady referencing the story of the Lady of the Lake.
The sex of the eaglets won’t be confirmed until they reach their sub adult stage, said Christopher Morris, Sr. Environmental Coordinator/Urban Biologist. The only way to accurately determine the gender of the Bald Eagle would be through capturing them and doing a DNA sample, “we’re not going to be doing that to our national bird,” he adds.
Excitement over the eaglets’ appearance has sparked a bond between Fans of the Bald Eagles and community members. “Glad the eagles are back! All the more fun at White Rock Lake,” one commenter posted.
While we couldn’t choose every name (there were many), we will see what the majority of Dallasites decide to name the eaglets.
