International Baccalaureate (IB) authorized Robert E. Lee Elementary School, which will be Geneva Heights Elementary School next school year, as an official IB World School.
The school is now a Primary Years Programme, which is the elementary branch of the IB program. The curriculum focuses on the IB Learner Profile with traits such as “risk taking” and “inquiring.” It culminates in fifth grade with an exhibition where students “conduct an in-depth inquiry into real life issues or problems,” according to IB.
Lee underwent nearly three years of school visits, paperwork, teacher training and curriculum implementation to become an official IB school. IB regularly visits schools to make sure their curriculum and philosophy are implemented to standard.
Lee will create a kindergarten to graduation IB pathway for students in East Dallas, as J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School are already authorized.
“This IB authorizations means we will be focused on turning our kids into world students, teaching them about different cultures and how they can impact the world as individuals,” Principal Bert Hart said to The Hub.
