LaLa Johnson’s “3 American Divas” concert.

A background singer for East Dallas resident Erykah Badu is planning a concert in Deep Ellum to benefit local nonprofits.

LaLa Johnson is using her “3 American Divas” concert as a tribute to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner.

The event, planned for June 26 at Louie Louie’s Piano Bar, will benefit Girls Rock Dallas and Women Called Moses. It’s also the re-release party for Johnson’s single, Divas’ Anthem.

Girls Rock Dallas educates girls, women, trans and gender-expansive people about music to improve their self-esteem and confidence. Women Called Moses helps women in the underserved communities in the southern part of Dallas, especially those who experience domestic violence.

Johnson is a veteran of the United States Army and leads i.Tina, the all-women Tina Turner tribute band.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15-$120, with live-streaming, general admission and VIP seating available.
