They were all near the intersection of Henderson and McMillan: the old Beauty Bar, the old Warby Parker and the old Chubbies.

Beauty Bar, a salon-themed bar and dance club, opened on Henderson in 2011 and relocated to Deep Ellum in 2019. It only lasted there, on Main Street, for about 10 months, before it temporarily and then permanently closed.

Glasses retailer Warby Parker moved from 2008 N. Henderson Ave. It’s still on Henderson, but closer to Central Expressway, next to Tecovas.

Chubbies, a men’s clothing store, closed in 2019 after two years at 2026 N. Henderson Ave.

We’ll provide updates on what’s coming to these properties as we learn more.

The properties are among those owned by New-York based Acadia Realty Trust. In 2022, the firm purchased a string of retail, restaurant and other commercial buildings along with undeveloped land on Henderson Avenue for $85.4 million.

Acadia Realty Trust announced in a May 2022 news release that “significant redevelopment and densification opportunities will enable [the company] to add retail and office space.”

Construction has already started on the building that houses Gemma and Veritas Wine Room. Muse the Salon used to be in that building, at 2323 N. Henderson Ave., and is now open at 5330 E. Mockingbird Lane. Henderson Tap House closed.

Ever/Body, a spa offering services such as dermal fillers and laser hair removal, is expected to open at 2323 N. Henderson Ave.

According to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Acadia Realty Trust plans to build new retail and office spaces and parking areas along Henderson Avenue.

In other Henderson Avenue news, Plomo Quesadilla Bar is taking shape next to the Houndstooth coffee shop and is expected to open very soon. And the BAR-bie pop-up at The Whippersnapper will open Aug. 10.
