Artist Steven Novak features a massacre scene complete with dummies and severed limbs covered in fake blood outside his home on the M Streets. The scene is so horrifying, some neighbors have called the cops.

The story, first reported by the Observer, has since traveled around the world via national and international news sites like Fox News, TMZ and the Daily Mail.

Novak’s decorations bring to mind another Halloween scene that caused more controversy than delight.

In 2018, A Lakewood neighbor was criticized for featuring a Frankenstein hanging from a noose attached to a tree in the front yard. The monster was wearing overalls.

“The rights of a homeowner, a white person in particular, to hang a decoration up like this have got to give way to the sensitivity we should have for all of our neighbors,” Wilshire Baptist Church pastor and neighbor George Mason told CBS at the time.

Should gory Halloween decorations be regulated?
