A Lakewood neighbor is organizing a gift card drive to raise money for Dallas ISD students affected by the Oct. 20 tornado.

Chris Fox, who proposed the ordinance to install diaper changing stations in all public bathrooms, is organizing the event, which will take place from 4-6 p.m. Monday at Briggs Freeman Courtyard, 6301 Gaston Ave.

Neighbors who want to help should buy $25-$30 gift cards to stores like Walmart or Target and drop them off at the event.

“I’ve spoken with the district, and that’s what they need the most,” Fox said on the Lakewood, Dallas Facebook group. “They will distribute them to the families and teachers most affected.”

Popcorn, candy and soda will be provided, along with entertainment from the Woodrow Wilson drumline around 5:30 p.m.

“As you go about life, consider all that we are thankful for and how lucky we are to still have a community that can send their kids to school,” Fox wrote.
