The parking lot at St. Thomas was empty Friday, thanks to the flu.

Bishop Lynch kept all students home Thursday and Friday due to the number of students out with the flu.  St. Thomas Aquinas, with two campuses in East Dallas, followed suit and shut school down Friday.

In an email to parents, Bishop Lynch representatives said that a consultation with Dallas Health and Human Services led them to their decision to close the school. They are implementing an “E-day protocol,” where students complete assignments from home and submit them online.

“Our goal is to promote the health and wellness of our student population during this stage of the influenza season and maintain the continuity of instruction,” the message read.

A particularly deadly flu virus has killed 60 people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area this year, according to the Dallas Morning News.
