Gibson saw the 1987 Heisman Trophy winner’s plaque for sale after an email from eBay alerted her to items she might be interested in.

“And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, that shouldn’t be on there,’ ” Gibson recalled.

A few calls and Facebook messages later it was confirmed Brown was indeed missing his plaque. Without the former football player knowing, another Woodrow alum, Jason Kulas, placed a bid of $123 on the plaque to bring it back to Dallas from New York, where it had ended up.

The alumni association surprised Brown by returning the plaque when the Pro Football Hall of Fame honored him last November. The unusual story with a happy ending was covered by the Advocate on two different occasions.
