Davis had been out celebrating her roommate’s birthday when the fire happened.

Faulty wiring in a lamp caused the fire on Oct. 28 and left severe damage to Davis’ home. Only two dogs were able to escape: Davis’ dog Ladybug and a dog they had been watching.

According to Taylor Slovak, a family friend who is heading up the fundraising, Ladybug jumped through a window to escape and had been missing for several hours before being found, lost, then finally found again.

The author of the page, Fight Fire With Love: Support Mindy Davis, noted it is believed almost everything Davis, her roommate and her soon-to-be roommate, Ross Sheridan, owned is a complete loss.  A goal of $10,000 is currently set with more than $5,000 raised so far.

However, Slovak notes they have already had to start using this money to cover damage costs and essential needs. She adds they may try to set a higher fundraising goal to stay on top of those continued costs.

“We have such a beautiful community. It’s been such a hard year for the Davis family,” explained Slovak. “My heart just breaks for them. This family has been through so much.”
