The Spence Garden Market is from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 24 at the school, on Capitol at Haskell.

Spence school nurse, Jennifer Turkyilmaz, is organizing the market “in response to a growing need for food education in the student population.” Turkyilmaz is the wife of Advocate photo editor Can Türkyilmaz.

Businesses, nonprofits and home growers donated organic, locally grown produce for the market. And all all proceeds from the market will go toward expanding the school’s garden and “creating food education experiences for the children and families in the community.”

The food donations come from the Driscoll family, the Food for Good Farm at Paul Quinn College, Promise of Peace Community Garden and Lakewood Whole Foods.
